Where the money goesZakah kept apart
Zakah gifts have their own account in our books and only go to people eligible to receive them.
Small on purpose
Two projects to start. We only promise what we can deliver.
Our projects
Two small projects, done properly
When these run well, we'll grow. Not before.
Project 1 · Starting
Newborn Care
Milk, nappies, clothing and medicine for babies left at the hospital in Tangier in their first days. Today, doctors sometimes pay for these themselves.
Project 2 · Starting
First Aid for All
Free one-hour first-aid classes in mosques and schools, so the people who gather at an accident know what to do before the ambulance arrives.
Why we're starting here
Why start with newborns and first aid?
Because both are needs we can meet well from day one. A newborn left at the hospital needs milk and nappies this week, not a building in five years. And a one-hour class can teach a room full of people what to do at a road accident.
The first idea was an orphanage. It's still the aim. But an orphanage costs a great deal to build and run, and a new charity making expensive mistakes helps no one. So we're learning first, from the hospital, the doctors and the people already doing this work in Tangier.
Work out your zakah, including for your business
Cash, gold and silver, savings, and the rules people often miss: zakah on business stock, what to count if you sell a service, and why it runs on the Islamic year.
Give once, or every month
A monthly gift lets us plan. The ward knows the milk will keep coming. For now we take gifts by bank transfer; card and PayPal giving will follow.

Questions
Before you give
Is Glimmer of Dawn a registered charity?
Yes. Glimmer of Dawn is registered as a charity in Tangier, Morocco. The registration certificate lists our board members' personal details, so we don't publish it online, but we'll send you a copy if you ask. Choose “Certificate request” on the contact form.
Can I donate from inside Morocco?
Not yet. Raising money inside Morocco needs separate approval from Rabat, so for now we only accept gifts from outside the country. If you live in Morocco you can still help: request a first-aid class for your mosque or school, or tell us if you're a qualified trainer.
How will I know where my money went?
We publish every purchase on our Where the money goes page: the date, the project, what we bought and what it cost, with a photo of the receipt when there is one. Many small shops in Morocco only give handwritten receipts, so each entry says what kind of proof we have.
Can I give my zakah through you?
Yes. Choose Zakah when you give, or write ZAKAH in your bank transfer reference. Zakah gifts are kept apart from all other gifts and only spent on people who are eligible to receive zakah.
